Archdiocese of Denver Liturgical Calendar & Notes for 2017

Catholics are obliged to attend Holy Mass on the following holy days of obligation in 2017:

  • Tuesday, August 15, 2017 Solemnity of the Assumption of the BVM
  • Wednesday, November 1, 2017 Solemnity of All Saints
  • Friday, December 8, 2017 Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception
  • Monday, December 25, 2017 Solemnity of the Nativity of Our Lord


Nota Bene for 2017 Liturgical Calendar

  •  Observance of the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord is transferred to the Seventh Sunday of Easter, May 28, 2017.
  • Annual Lenten “The Light is on for You” Confession in all parishes is Thursday March 23, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.


Wednesday, March 1, 2017: Ash Wednesday

***Fasting and Abstinence Regulations***
All Catholics 14 years and older must abstain from meat on the Fridays of Lent, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
All Catholics between ages 18 and 59, are to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

Time of The Easter Vigil

The entire celebration of the Eater Vigil takes place at night. It should not begin before nightfall; it should end before daybreak on Sunday” (Roman Missal).  On April 15, 2017 according to United States Naval Observatory Sun and Moon Data, civil twilight ends at 8:06 p.m. (MDT). The Easter Vigil should not begin until 8:15 p.m.
