“The Lord gave me these eyes to bring the need to people and he takes it from there.”

Nancy Rasser

Nancy Rasser can see unmet needs and bridge the gap to meet them, but she thinks she’s just doing her job.

Rasser, 87, has spent most of her life serving God and the poor, even after Tom, her husband of 63 years passed away on Christmas morning in 2020.

“I always said to my husband, what can we do to help? God gave me eyes to see where there’s a need and somehow when I see the need, very generous people reach out to help me fill it,” Rasser said.

Whether it’s collecting used clothes and hygiene items for agencies that serve the poor or connecting a donated wheelchair with someone who just came home from the hospital, Rasser manages to be the conduit for God’s graceful assistance.

“The Lord gave me these eyes to bring the need to people and he takes it from there,” said Rasser who does it all to serve the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Mary’s of Littleton.

Rasser’s husband was an extraordinary minister to the sick until a week before he went into the hospital, she said. His service to others made it easier for Nancy to decide to serve the needy with donations of his clothing after his death. Now she encourages other widows and widowers to do the same even if they may feel reluctant at first.

“She is the best example of a true disciple; she cares deeply for the needy,” said fellow parishioner Charleen Dowdell. “She is the most charitable woman I have ever met.”
