Bio on Fr. Carney:
Father Lawrence Carney was ordained for the Diocese of Wichita in 2007. He is the author of several books. In 2014, he was appointed as chaplain of the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles. He walks the streets of US cities in a cassock carrying a crucifix and a rosary in each hand in an effort to bring souls to the Catholic Church. In 2017, he began the League of St. Martin, a pious association of the faithful that prays for reverence, reparation, and reversion-the chief goals being enrollment in the Archconfraternity of the Holy Face and the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary. In 2022 continuing as chaplain of the Nuns and director of the League, he was appointed Missionary Priest of Wichita, Kansas.
There are many sources on the internet to read/watch to learn more about Fr. Carney and the order of nuns for which he is chaplain, the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of the Apostles.
These nuns have their own unique story as well; chart topping albums and featured on CBS Sunday morning. Most recently, last Spring the foundress of the order, Sister Wilhelmina, was found to be incorrupt 4 years after her death and burial! Fr. Carney's visit should be one filled with lots of intriguing, inspiring, and compelling moments. After each talk, there will be time for Q&A as well as book signing.
Unique Connection to the Archdiocese of Denver & Holy Name Parish:
Fr. Carney has written several books including one on the Holy Face of Jesus, which has ties to the Holy Name of Jesus & St. Martin of Tours, namesake for the mission church in our parish. Fr. Carney’s work to revive devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus has born fruit here in Steamboat Springs with the beginnings of a growing Holy Face devotional group, which meets monthly, initiated by parishioner Elisa Hayes. Additionally, the chaplet of the Holy Face is prayed before the start of each daily Mass. Archbishop Aquila of the Archdiocese of Denver encourages us to pray The Holy Face chaplet during this time of Eucharist Revival. So you can see there are many special connections to our parish and Archdiocese!
Thank you in advance for supporting the work & mission of this priest.
