Metropolitan Tribunal and Office of Canonical Affairs

The Metropolitan Tribunal and Office of Canonical Affairs is the vicariate established by canon law as the judicial arm of the archbishop’s government of the archdiocese. As such, it is the court system of the Church and the canonical forum for the resolution of legal questions arising from the activity of the Church and of the faithful.

The Metropolitan Tribunal and Office of Canonical Affairs houses the first Instance court of Denver, as well as the appeals court for the province, which includes the dioceses of Cheyenne, Pueblo and Colorado Springs. By delegation, the tribunal also handles all matters of permissions and dispensations pertaining to marriage.
