Teaching Safety – Empowering God’s Children

As of June 2020 the Archdiocese uses VIRTUS® – Teaching Safety: Empowering God’s Children as the only Safe Environment curriculum for children and youth in Religious Education and Catholic Schools.  All necessary materials for lesson leaders are available through the Children’s Program tab on the individual’s VIRTUS account.

Submit  the Children’s Program tab request form to receive access to the educator materials on VIRTUS or contact  Alex.Kwan@archden.org .

For the 2025-2026 academic year please present the following lessons:

  • Religious Education Programs: Lesson 6: Feelings and Facts
  • Catholic Schools: Lesson 5: Being a Safe Friend AND Lesson 6: Feelings and Facts

VIRTUS Lesson Leader Orientation module –  A 25-minute online training module that equips lesson leaders (catechists or parents) to successfully teach the Teaching Safety lessons. It provides specific material about foundational concepts, logistics, and how to navigate child disclosures and reporting. Contact  Alex.Kwan@archden.org for instructions to access this module.
