(Denver) – The Archdiocese of Denver is working to transform the former Mullen Home site in northwest Denver into a vibrant new senior living community. Now named Mullen Residences at the Highlands, the community is projected to open in 2029 and is accepting reservations now.

“We invite the community to join us in shaping an inspiring future for older adults. Mullen Residences will honor a century-long legacy of compassion while embracing an age-positive vision for senior living, one that is vibrant, innovative, and empowering,” shares Jill Vitale-Aussem, President and CEO of Christian Living Communities, the Denver-based nonprofit senior living provider selected by the Archdiocese of Denver to operate this new community.

Mullen Residences will offer a full continuum of care, including spacious independent living apartments, assisted living, memory care, a town center, and brownstone homes. The design will blend the site’s historic charm with modern amenities like a wellness center, a state-of-the-art theater, and more. The project will also preserve the iconic “Old Main” building, home to the chapel and other historic features.

Located at 3629 W. 29th Avenue in the heart of Denver’s West Highlands neighborhood, the site was formerly operated by the Little Sisters of the Poor, who provided care for low-income older adults for more than a century before closing in 2022. The Archdiocese temporarily leased the property to the City of Denver to serve as a migrant housing shelter while evaluating long term uses.

With the vision for Mullen Residences now taking shape, Archdiocesan leadership is expressing enthusiasm about the future of the site.

“The Archdiocese of Denver is delighted to be able to offer such an extraordinary senior living option in the West Highlands,” said the Most Reverend Samuel J. Aquila. “We are proud to collaborate with Christian Living Communities and Senior Housing Partners in this important redevelopment effort.”

Construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
