The Archdiocese of Denver requires all “church workers” (clergy and religious, all Archdiocesan employees and all volunteers working with minors) to complete the following:
- Safe Environment Training – Initial training must be a live approved Archdiocese of Denver class. Training must be renewed (online available) every 5 years.
- Archdiocese of Denver Background Check – Background check must be renewed every 5 years.
- Archdiocesan Code of Conduct must be reviewed and signed.
***All three are required before any work/volunteering with minors is begun.***
All Church Workers must have a VIRTUS account to track safe environment compliance and update training. To complete the live training requirement see below. Background checks are initiated at the parish or school. The Code of Conduct is signed through the individual VIRTUS account or at the local parish or school.
“Protecting God’s Children® for Adults” is a live training conducted by VIRTUS® certified facilitators on the prevention and reporting of child neglect and abuse. The training makes participants aware of the signs of grooming, neglect and child sexual abuse, the methods and means by which offenders commit abuse, and five easy steps one can use to prevent child sexual abuse.

This is a program for adults (18 and over) on the prevention of child sex abuse. 16- and 17-year-olds may attend only with written permission from a parent/guardian .

The current Safe Environment online refresher course is “Healthy Boundaries for Adults”.
This module addresses the proper development of healthy boundaries, and the implementation of them within the ministry environment. The module seeks to equip the caring adult with the information needed to move past simply understanding boundaries and helps to put them into practice. Best practices of appropriate and inappropriate behavior will be discussed. Time investment: approx. 60 minutes to complete. Available in English and Spanish.
