Deepen Your Relationship With God

Bringing people into relationship with Christ and His Church is at the heart of what it means to be a Christian. While it may seem intimidating at first, the more open we become in sharing our faith, the more we deepen our own relationship with Christ.

We oftentimes forget that through the sacraments of Christ’s Church we are given all the graces we need to let our lives be transformed in Christ, and to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Like the early Apostles, Christ calls every single baptized person to go and make disciples of all nations – he calls each one of us, and he calls us today.

So, check out the videos, resources and tips available below. We feel confident that you’ll find evangelization isn’t as complicated as we make it out to be.
After all, it begins with joy – the joy that exudes from our own friendship with Jesus. You got this.

Describing Catholicism

If someone walked up to you and asked, “What is Catholicism?”  How would you respond?

In today’s tech-savvy and sometimes short-attention-span world, coming up with a 140-character Tweetable answer would be tough.  On top of that, many people—even those raised in the Catholic faith—never benefited from a solid understanding of the Christian faith. Venerable Fulton J. Sheen once said, “There are not one hundred people in the United States who hate The Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they wrongly perceive the Catholic Church to be.”

At the heart of asking “What is the Catholic Church” are several more paramount questions:

  • Who is Jesus Christ?
  • Why should I develop a relationship with Him?
  • How do I best know Him, love Him, and serve Him?
  • What was Christ offering me when he founded the Church?

Quick Pointers

PRAY.

First and most importantly, have an active prayer life. In prayer, we learn how to be in relationship with Jesus Christ, and docile to the Holy Spirit.

Know YOUR story.

Yes, you have a story. Sharing how you have personally experienced the love of God is crucial when evangelizing.

Understand Salvation history.

My story. Your story. It’s all wrapped up in the story of salvation history.

Articulate the Good News of the Gospel message.

This is sometimes also referred to as the Kerygma. Here are some examples to get you started:

  • For God so loved the world, he gave his only son, so that whoever believes in him might not perish, but have eternal life. – John 3:16
  • Jesus Christ loves you; he gave his life to save you; and now he is living at your side every day to enlighten, strengthen and free you. – Pope Francis, Joy of the Gospel
  • God loves you and created you to know Him personally. Man is sinful and separated from God, so we cannot know Him personally or experience His love. God sent his only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us as God’s provision for man’s sin. Through Him alone we can know God personally and experience God’s love. We must individually receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; then we can know God personally and experience His love.

Make an invitation

  • Connect the person to a Church community that is best able to meet the person where they are at this moment in their life (i.e. young adult, single mom, recently retired etc.).
  • Get them plugged directly into a parish Bible Study, RCIA program, or Alpha program.
  • Encourage them to attend a ChristLife event or Reboot Life!

Be Prepared For Accompaniment

Jesus invited people to “come and see” and then he accompanied them on the journey. Walk alongside new, growing or returning believers. Accompany them to Mass, attend a parish ministry with them etc. Most importantly, build a relationship with them.
